The Watchful Buck is an Oil on canvas, 18 x 24 inches by Karisa Lee.
This studio study explores the form and presence of a mature deer through expressive brushwork and layered color. The figure is loosely defined, with visible drips and open edges left intact to emphasize process over polish. Warm earth tones are offset with cool greens and blues, allowing shifts in value and temperature to shape the subject without heavy detail.
Knowing this would be an engaging subject, I chose to work on a larger canvas to allow for broader gesture and movement.
