The Stylus centers on the relationship between a dancer and an antique gramophone. There is a deeper meaning behind the scene, but Karisa intentionally leaves that meaning open so the viewer can bring their own story to it.

Karisa began the painting by covering the white canvas with a rich orange, creating warmth beneath every layer that followed. Working in oils and using a subtraction technique, she repeatedly added and removed paint to create the deep shadows, soft edges, and warm glow throughout the piece.

The title offers a clue, but not the full answer.
